Add Value to Your Kitchen With a Kitchen Island Counter

A kitchen island counter is easy to design and install and can add value and usefulness to a kitchen. A kitchen island top may be needed by a homeowner because a kitchen doesn't provide enough counter, cabinet or eating space. Even a small island countertop can make a kitchen feel easier to move around in and prepare food in. A kitchen island top can also be equipped with different accessories, making it even more helpful to store kitchen utensils and appliances.

Wheels Casters

A island counter can be a great place to put a microwave, blender or mixer. Some islands can have electrical outlets installed and can allow for the operation of these appliances while they are resting on the counter. A island countertop can also have a stove top installed to allow for more cooking space in the kitchen. These islands may also need to be equipped with an exhaust fan for the stove top.

Wheels Casters

The design of a kitchen island is completely up to the homeowner. Some of the islands come in a natural wood color. This allows the homeowner to keep the island counter in the natural wood finish or the counter can be stained. Before designing the countertop, the homeowner should decide what look he or she is trying to achieve in the kitchen. A new trendy is to install a island top that is a bright color that doesn't necessarily match the already present color scheme in the kitchen. This makes the kitchen seem more artsy and funky and can make the island really stand out in the room. A homeowner may also decide that he or she wants a traditional kitchen island countertop that matches the rest of the color scheme. He or she will then need to design the kitchen island counter with the same materials and staining as the rest of the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen.

An island top that is on casters may be appealing to a homeowner who doesn't want to commit to the exact positioning of the island. The countertop can be moved to the end of the kitchen if extra seating is needed or to the middle of the kitchen if extra workspace is needed. A homeowner may also find that he or she can wheel the island into a completely different room if it is needed as extra counter space for craft work or computer equipment.

The counter and storage space that is offered by a island countertop can make a kitchen roomier and easier to use. A homeowner may find that the installation of a kitchen island top will add value to the kitchen because it is more useful and easier to navigate. A homeowner can choose the style and design of the kitchen island counter based on what he or she thinks will make the kitchen look the best. There are also many options for accessories such as electrical outlets, stove tops, casters, and extra eating space.

Wheelchairs Help Those With Limited Mobility

Wheelchairs are a boon to the physically disabled people who cannot walk or move. With the help of these wheelchairs they can move around anywhere and everywhere. Wheelchairs are now often available free of charge at the Information desk of malls, airports, etc. (Although you will probably need to leave some form of identification as security.) Wheelchairs are also accessories to provide the numerous functions depending on the needs of the user. There are wheelchairs for people with extreme paralysis, which can be controlled from anywhere in the body, such as a power chair, whose owner can control the movements with a mouthpiece, but the simplest form is a lightweight manual model.

Wheels Casters

Wheelchairs are flexible enough to be tailor-made for your requirements by adding reclining and foot rests, seat and legs elevation, tilting, power stand, and spring suspension. You can also use motorized wheelchairs for tight and low-radius turning. Wheelchairs are available in all different shapes and sizes.

Wheels Casters

The electric powered wheelchairs have become more popular in recent times. Wheelchairs are great inventions that have provided increased mobility and independence for people with temporary or permanent disabilities. Wheelchairs were originally a basic platform on a set of wheels, but these machines have developed many accessories for improvement since they were first used to help people.

Wheelchair users regard their accessories as a form of expression. Wheelchairs have come a long way from the traditional kind of manual to electric and now with the attachment of accessories now introducing a new generation of snazzy and jazzy electric wheelchairs for the younger generations. Wheelchairs can also assist those younger individuals who need assistance walking, not just those with paralysis.

Disabled equipment makes moving easier and sometimes help health professionals to better handle older people as well. Some products, like wheelchairs are mobility equipment designed to help with movement while others assist with daily tasks, sometimes things that seem as simple as getting in and out of bed.

Disabled people often want to travel alone, a way in which they can keep their independence, and for this reason lightweight travel wheelchairs are a very much desired piece of equipment. Walking long corridors, like those from check in to an airplane departure gate can cause a huge amount of stress, even to someone who is only partially mobility impaired.

Lightweight wheelchairs provide more flexibility regarding design options for upholstery, arms rest, foot rest, back rest, wheels and casters, and seats. They are made from high quality material like chrome, titanium, aluminum, steel, and carbon fiber. Lightweight travel wheelchairs have changed so much in recent years that they are now cheaper and much more affordable. Ten years ago no one would ever have dreamed that a wheelchair could weigh only 10kgs and still function properly.

The Invention of the Wheel

The wheel was first diagrammed on ancient clay tablets as early as 3500 BC. It was probably used initially on Mesopotamian chariots in 3200 BC. I can hardly believe the articles that I have read online that claim the wheel wasn't used anywhere in the Western Hemisphere until after contact with Europeans. Seems unfathomable.

Wheels Casters

The wheel one would think would be in every civilization since the beginning of man. If the articles I read are right the wheel wasn't used in the Inca, Aztec and Maya civilizations. Even in Europe the wheel didn't evolve much until the beginning of the nineteenth century. The industrial revolution brought the wheel into the apex of civilization. It is used in countless ways today.

Wheels Casters

The wheel has certainly undergone revolutionary changes in the last hundred years. For millenniums wheels were constructed of metal or wood, today we have rubber, stainless steel, polyurethane, nylon and thermoplastic rubber wheels to name a few. A major advancement for wheels was the invention of caster wheels that allows the wheel to swivel from a small steel platform allowing the wheel to turn in any direction. Think of what this means to carts, theatre and scenery props, instrument equipment, hand trucks, planter and furniture dollies just to name a few. Pneumatic casters are useful for heavy load as they protect the floor and the load.

From logs to axles to caster wheels, the changes keep coming and we each benefit from them in so many ways. We have come a long way since the ancient chariot wheel of Mesopotamian. The future looks bright indeed.

More Desk Chair Options

Are you looking for the right type of desk chair for your home office? Cost and style are usually a buyer's main considerations but you must also ensure that your desk chair is comfortable, sturdy, ergonomic, and will fit right in your intended space. You must therefore evaluate your personal needs and weigh your options carefully before you shopping so that you don't come to realize too late that you invested in a faulty product.

Wheels Casters

Making the wrong choice involves more than financial losses. Your health and the productivity of you and your employees are also at stake. The wrong chair may cause neck pains and back problems. It can affect your business in the long run. This is where ergonomics come into play. Loosely defined as the science of structuring equipment in relation to the human body and the environment, ergonomics has seen the production of office furniture that is both healthy and durable.

The Anatomy of a Desk Chair

The typical desk chair includes casters or wheels, a backrest, and optional arm rests. As denoted by the name, it is designed to be used in conjunction with a desk. The seat may be adjusted to fit the height of the user or the height of the desktop. There are chairs for desks that have reclining capabilities to allow stretching and laying back at a desired angle.

Wood, metal, and heavy plastic are the most common types of materials used in making desk chairs. Seats and backrests may be wooden, padded, or covered with various materials like fabrics, synthetic, vinyl, and leather. There are also some chairs that use a combination of any of these materials. The wheels or casters are either made of metal or rubber ideal for soft and hard surfaces, respectively.

More Options

Desk chairs are not strictly limited to task chairs we usually find in the office. You can go for more affordable or creative alternatives especially if you only plan to use the chair for a few hours at a time. The ball chair for instance is an increasingly popular choice among buyers. The user balances on top of a ball very similar to ones found at the gym to sit straight.

Kneeling chairs are good for the knees and shins. They come with a special pad positioned in front of the chair on which the user can rest his limbs. One disadvantage of kneeling chairs, though, is that they don't have wheels, a desk chair feature that many consider important.

Shoe Storage Ideas - Thinking Outside the Shoe Box

Sometimes finding space for shoe storage simply means using space you already have, knowing what products are available and being creative... "thinking outside the shoe box" if you will.

Wheels Casters

How much space do you have?

Wheels Casters

You need to have good measurements for your closet or entryway.  Closet products are generally sized in 12 inch intervals as a closets are usually 24 inches deep but your entrance way can be large enough for a storage bench or small enough that it won't even accommodate shoe storage so get good measurements.

How many shoes need to be stored?

Which shoes do you wear most often and which ones are simply stored away?  We usually only wear about 20% of what we own so some of your footwear will be worn often and those are the items that you need to keep readily accessible.  Everything else can be stored away.

 Products for shoe storage

Boxes- boxes are suitable for storing shoes that are not to be accessed frequently.  Look for clear plastic boxes so you can easily identify what is in there.  Make sure if you are using boxes for shoe storage that are all of the same variety and that they are made to stack together. Shoe racks - shoe racks can be plastic coated metal, laminate, and melamine covered particle board and even real cedar.  Look for shoe racks with stackable components so you can use the vertical space in your closet. Try raising the closet rod to 72 inches and then putting the shoe rack on the floor.  This arrangement provides space for shoe storage and still allows enough vertical space above your shoes for hanging garments.  You will need about 8-9 inches per pair of shoes so a 24 inch lineal space on a shoe rack could accommodate 3 pairs of shoes stored side by side.  Generally shoe racks made for storing shoes in this way are manufactured in 24 inch widths. Underbed shoe storage - some products are now made to fit underneath the bed to provide use of space that is otherwise wasted.  Underbed  units are made of either soft plastic or rigid plastic boxes with hinged lids.  This is another shoe storage idea for those shoes that are not accessed often.  If you need extra space under the bed to accommodate a storage unit then raise the bed a few inches. There are specific products available called "bed risers"  that can be used to get the bed a few inches higher in order to make the  horizontal surface under the bed more usable for storage.  You can even go to the big box store and purchase bed casters that are adjustable to different heights and they might provide the few extra inches you need.

Think  "outside the shoe box"

It is not always necessary to use a product designed for shoe storage if you want to store shoes.  Other types of furniture can sometimes do just as well.  I have seen metal lockers,  book cases, storage baskets, and even laundry baskets used to corral those loose shoes.

Here are three ideas for shoe storage that essentially make good use of products that were designed  for something else.

Do you have a  big decorative clay pot?  Instead of planting a plant in there and dealing with all the dirt and constant watering use it to store shoes right by the entry way. A  vertical CD holder  doesn't have to be for CD's, some of them are great for storing your footwear. One of the most creative shoe storage ideas I have seen is the use of an  entertainment unit  placed at the end of a king size bed.  It is often hard to find a bench that will span the entire width of a king size bed but this unit fit perfectly and the owners used the "cubbies" for shoe storage.  If also provided a perfect place to sit while donning shoes.

So if you want new and original shoe storage ideas for all of those shoes you have on the floor and not on your feet, just get creative and think outside the shoe box.

Swivel Chair Parts

Swivel chairs are flexible and mobile, which is why they are favorites furniture additions not only in offices but as well as in kitchens, studies, and living areas.. Different kinds of such chairs include stools, patio chairs, and desk chairs. As the name denotes, swivel chairs are equipped with casters or tiny wheels fitted within caster frames that allow whoever is sitting down to move from one end of his desk to another more easily.

Wheels Casters

However, swivels are not exclusively found in offices. You may also add have them in the kitchen, the living room, or your study. Bars, salons, and other business establishments also offer the benefits of these chairs to their customers. Recliners are possibly the most popular type of swivel chair. They may be covered with various materials like vinyl, leather, and fabric.

Wheels Casters

Everyone likes swivel chairs, even kids. Due to the chair's functionality, it may be exposed to prolonged use that could eventually lead to damaged or broken parts. Fortunately, manufacturers make available spare parts for sale to replace broken ones. Take some effort looking for the part you need and you are sure to find them online, if not in your local furniture store.

Casters

Casters are important parts of swivel chairs because not only do they carry a person's full weight, they are also constantly on the move. Sellers of chair parts usually offer these in different sizes. There are casters with diameter sizes of 50mm, 65mm, and 75mm. The size of your caster affects the performance of your swivel chair so it is absolutely necessary that you get only the right size for replacements.

Casters also come in various types. These include stem mount casters, pneumatic, total-locking, nickel plated, and furniture casters. Some chairs need only four casters while others may require up to eight, depending on how many arms the swivel base has.

Ottoman Legs

Ottoman legs are optional parts of a swivel chair. These are extended parts wherein the owner can rest his legs. A common feature of reclining swivel chairs, these can be covered with cushions, leather, and other upholstery. They can also be replaced if necessary.

Other Parts

Many swivel chair parts are actually available in plastic. They are also durable but not as expensive as other materials. Plastic parts available include back covers, mechanisms, fittings, hinges, and gas lifts. Bases may also come in plastic or stainless steel. Arm rests are also widely sold online in case you need new ones.

There are numerous sellers of chair parts, especially online, that it might require some time and effort to find products exactly as you need them. Be sure to know what you want and need. If you can, consult with an expert or the chair manufacturer and ask for their assistance in finding replacement parts.
